We suggest to fly to the Zurich airport (ZRH) or to the small airport in Lugano-Agno (LUG). Another option is given by the airports in Milan (Italy): the nearest one is Milano-Malpensa airport (MXP). Milano Linate (LIN) and Milano Orio al Serio(-Bergamo) (BGY) are more distant. The latter is served by many european low-cost airlines.
The best way to reach Locarno is by train from the Zurich Airport Railway station. At Zurich airport, you will easily find the airport train station, with counters or automatic vending machines where you can buy a ticket (round-trip ticket costs ~130 CHF = ~140$, credit card accepted). You can also change money directly at the train station. Please note that people traveling on the train without valid ticket are fined! Take the first train to the Zurich main station (Zurich HB). From Zurich HB there is normally one train connection to Locarno every hour and the travel duration is about 3 hours. Every 2 hours you have a direct connection with no need to change. You can enjoy a spectacular train ride through the Gotthard mountains with the world famous spiraling tunnels.
Note: If your return flight from Zurich Airport is leaving before 11am, we recommend to overnight in Zurich during the previous night. In fact if you leave Locarno with the first train in the morning you arrive at Zurich airport at 9:13.
We suggest to go to the Lugano railway station with the shuttle bus or by taxi and reach the Locarno railway station by train changing in Bellinzona or Giubiasco (check the timetable). There are normally two train connections per hour and the travel duration is about 1 hour. Train ticket must be bought at the train station (after 19 hours only at the automatic vending machines: credit cards and CHF cash accepted). People traveling on the train without valid ticket are fined!
EcoTaxsi offers the transfer directly to Locarno conference center for about 140 CHF. For reservations take contact with EcoTaxsi.
We suggest to go directly from Milano Malpensa train station to Locarno railway station (train timetable). An alternative is to go to the Bellinzona railway station with the shuttle bus and then reach the Locarno railway station by train (train timetable). (Duration: about 1 hour and 50 minutes by bus + max 30 minutes by train). Bus ticket can be bought on the bus, train ticket must be bought at the train station (after 19 hours only at the automatic vending machines: credit cards and CHF cash accepted). People traveling on the train without valid ticket are fined!
EcoTaxsi offers the transfer directly from Malpensa to Locarno train station for 250 CHF. For reservations take contact with EcoTaxsi. This solution is suggested for groups from 5 up to 8 people.
From Milano Linate or Milano Orio al Serio airports you can reach the main railway station Milano Centrale by bus (in about 30 min resp. 1 hour). From Milano Centrale you can reach Locarno in about 2.5 hours by train changing in Bellinzona (check the timetable). Bus ticket can be bought on the bus, train ticket must be bought at the train station. People traveling on the train without valid ticket are fined!
Follow the freeway to Gotthard-Italy until the exit "Bellinzona-Sud". Take the road to Locarno which goes first along and then across the Magadino plain.
You can check the online car map for your individual journey.
Follow the freeway to Chiasso-Lugano-Gotthard until you come to the exit "Rivera" (next exit after "Lugano Nord"). Take the very scenic local road down to the Magadino plain (Cadenazzo) and turn left onto the road to Locarno. This takes you across the Magadino plain.
